One-day trip “Historical Belgrade”

So close and so far away. This short sentence best describes the trip by Grade 5 and 7 students who visited Vinča and Kalemegdan.

By going to the locations only 10 kilometres away, we went to the distant past, prehistory, and the earliest period of history – ancient times.

In Vinča we learnt everything about the life of man in the young stone age and concluded that our distant predecessors cannot be considered and called primitive.

Following the course of the Danube we arrived to Kalemegdan. This time the subject of our attention were not the fortress walls but the things beneath, the Belgrade lagums, the Roman hall in the Belgrade City Library, the Roman well, Kalemegdan bunker, Barutana and wine cellars. All these created the mystical, ancient times, created mixed feelings of creepiness and respect for the achievements of previous generations, and certainly made us learn more about the past of the city we live in.
