Protection and preservation of endangered species

Today’s lecture was dedicated to the CITES (The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) activities, was very intresting. Someone found it pleasurable,  others thought it was entertaining, and those brave ones it was unforgettable. Pavle Jovanovic, a CITES official, gave an profound and inspiring lecture. The topic was Preservation and protection ofendangered species and wild animals trafficking. We had no idea that this is such a huge problem in our country. Unfortunatelly, we had to see some sad pictures of killed animals, and who the pouchers were. We realized that there are many ways to smuggle exotic birds, monkeys, aligators, and all the animals which are on the endangered list. We found out that prejudices and fashion are to blame for these killings. The lecturer brought couple of specimen, a piton and two turtles.

„The mission of this convention is to rise awereness of how dangerous is the disappearance of certain species, and how that affects people. Humans are on the top of the food chain, therefore we have to act in a civilised manner and be responsible for the planet. The planet itself will survive, will we?“ National Geographic Serbia.
