The (mis)usage of language - war rhetoric

The World War II was an event that significantly marked 20th century. The event, led on six out of seven continents and in all world oceans left more than 50 million dead people behind. It is hard to believe that only one man was responsible for one of the most horrible events in human civilization, whose war rhetoric or the art of discourse was the key to his success. During the class within the subject TOK, we talked with teacher Ena Stojanović about what made Adolf Hitler such a good speaker, which figures of speech he used when he had speeches, which words he used when he described the Jews and how much gesticulation and mime influenced his ability to be convincing. At the very end of the class we interpreted the seen speeches and pointed out the importance of knowing a language and reading books so we could be ready to recognize the linguistic manipulation and be eloquent enough to defend our beliefs on our own.
