CAPOEIRA

CAPOEIRA

In November we hosted the members of the Brazilian Cultural Centre who came to show us what Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art, is all about. The capoeiristas performed the Maculelê, an afro-Brazilian dance. Originally the Maculelê is believed to have been an indigenous armed fighting style, using two sticks or a machete. Nowadays it's a folkloric dance practiced with heavy afro-Brazilian percussion. The students were invited to join in and try the Capoeira during the promo training. A lot of students were interested so Capoeira trainings will be included in our extracurricular activities with a promo period of one month.  Alex Calixto Arruda, the Contra-mestre Lobisomem from the Brazilian Cultural Centre will be the trainer. Practice will be held on Wednesdays, indoor sport venue.
