On November 16th Serbian Language and Literature class brought two opposites together: chemistry and literature. The class started with the biography of the great German writer Goethe and Faustus. The only thing that connects them is alchemy. We were introduced to this art and tried to make our own philosopher’s stone, or at least the elixir of youth. This reminded us of the mystical in the work of the artist. We remembered many synonyms for the word Devil and showed our impeccable knowledge of phraseology. We know that better the Devil you know than the Devil you don’t know and that the Devil finds work for idle hands to do. Devil looks after his own and devil’s children have devil’s luck. There is a devil in disguise and the devil is in the detail. And you shouldn’t raise the devil. The most prominent students were Damjan Spasojević and Lara Samardžić with excellent oratorical skills.
