V and VI grade pupils went to Kladovo pn their excursion from 28th September until 3rd October 2015. This part of southeast Serbia has a rich cultural and historical heritage. We visited Lepenski Vir, one of the most important Mesolithic and Neolithic archeological site. Pupils heard about the work of our famous archeologist Dragoslav Srejović and watched a film about the excavation of this site. Day two was reserved for a cruise down the Danube , learning about the significance of the ruler Trajan, his bridge and memorial plaque and the carving in rock of the face of king Decebalus. The significance of Hajduk Veljko and Stevan Mokranjac was revealed to us by the town of Negotin. We visited the house of the composer Stevan Mokranjac and Hajduk Veljko as well as the town museum. An incredible experience for our pupils was when they visited the hydroelectric power station ''Đerdap'' and were actually able to see one of the generators being repaired. We also vidited the military fort Diana. On our last day we met an archeologist, Bora Dimitrijević, who was our host in the the museum in Zaječar. E We were especially impressed by Gamzigrad, an archeological site and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Serbia from 29th June 2007. It is the location of the ancient Roman complex of palaces and temples Felix Romuliana, built by Emperor Galerius. Every afternoon was reserved for sports activities and every evening for fun at the disco, Champions League matches, films, snooker and board games. The pupils pointed out only one down side to the excursion – it lasted only five days.
