As a part of the XVI edition of the International Week of the Italian language from 17th to 23rd October, an exhibition entitled “The passion and dreams of Italian fashion – creativity, style and research” was organized at The Residence of Princess Ljubica. The exhibition shows the talent, artistic form, and tailored perfection of Italian fashion as a cultural heritage of a country. This project represents the evolution of fashion from the 1950s onward, when an important creative process was initiated in Italy that alongside a natural ability to reinterpret the artisanship of historic Italy, the design school of the last quarter century has exhibited a prolific capacity to modernize both image and product. The Italian fashion system integrates state-of-the-art production of modern apparel, relaxed tailoring, luxury leather goods and knitwear, and research into new modes of design and production together with thread, yarn, and fabric innovations. Italian style is characterized by understated luxury and modernism, as well as glamour and sensuality. One of the dominant characteristics of the Italian fashion industry is its interdisciplinary nature: the seamless blend of product development, new materials and technology, new communications methods, celebrity, tradition, and art.
We enjoyed the unique creations of fashion designers like Gianfranco Ferre, Marella Ferrera, Gai Mattiolo, Gattinoni, Sorelle Fontana, Giorgio Armani, Enrico Coveri, Laura Biagiotti, Versace, Valentino, Fendi and Renato Balestra.
At the residence of Princess Ljubica we also saw the exhibition “The Treasure of Singidunum”. We saw vintage jewellery made of gold, silver, gemstone, glass paste and other materials. The archeological material discovered in the area of Belgrade shows how well developed certain branches of arts and crafts as well as trade.
