EXCURSION - ROME

EXCURSION - ROME

Early morning at the airport. We were tired and sleepy but excited about our forthcoming trip The first cup of cappuccino we drank boosted our energy and the adventure could begin. We do not believe in coincidences. Rome became Amor and many opportunities unfolded before us. Our visit to Pompeii was marvelous thanks to our excellent Italian guide who skillfully involved us in the story about a town that was buried under ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius 79 AD.  Our lovely day in Naples ended by the sea full of sailboats. Our trip to the past was inevitable. We were right in the middle of the events from our history lesson. We could feel the past. We conquered around 70 kilometres of Rome on foot seeing landmarks such as the town of Vatican, Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Colosseum, The Theatre of Marcellus…  The Sistine Chapel left us breathless, we received some good energy in the Pantheon, we stood in owe in front of Michelangelo’s Moses… We weren’t even put off by the rain. We armed ourselves with capes, umbrellas and boots. Campo de Fiori is an explosion of colours. The lively market reminded us of the markets back home, the difference being that Italian salesmen are more noticeable, more communicative and the market is a gustatory delight.  We had great fun buying fruit. The main attraction of Piazza Navona is the trio of fountains that adorn the square. The central and largest fountain is the Fountain of the Four Rivers. Although Trevi Fountain was under construction we threw the three coins into the fountain. One of our wishes was to return to Rome. Palma pastry shop offered some different ice cream flavours that it was impossible to make the right choice. The Spanish Steps , an elegant gathering place for locals and tourists alike.  Next was Trastevere, a charming medieval neighbourhood with a fiery temperament. A stroll around Trastevere, a formerly working-class district with a heady nightlife, will take you away from the crowds to the hidden corners of Rome. We returned to Belgrade, to our old habits, school, families. Photos remain as a plea to the fleeting moment to be as eternal as the city we visited.
